Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Nets do this deal for simple reasons. They know they aren’t title contenders.
Bridges is fantastic. Obviously, we wouldn’t have him getting moved for three first-round picks and a pair of solid young players if he wasn’t. Still, he’s not going to be leading a championship push.
Neither is anybody on this Nets’ roster. They could change that by sinking all of their future assets into a star. Still, it’s probably more sensible for them to rebuild.
After all, the Nets already have an impressive collection of draft capital. It’ll be all the more impressive following this deal. The Nets owe their 2024 first-round pick to the Houston Rockets, but in the following season, they only owe them swap rights.

If they could draft their franchise player, they’ll have all of the tools to build a contender around them.
After all, that’s the ultimate goal.
