Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal 

The Blazers would probably ask for Markkanen in initial negotiations. We actually don’t think that would be best for either side. 

On Utah’s side, acquiring Lillard is pointless if they don’t have a co-star to pair him with. They need both players to make this viable. By contrast, the Blazers shouldn’t want either. 

Lillard is aging. His market value is lower than a young star and four first-round picks. Since they’re moving the best player in this trade, they shouldn’t take half-measures. It’s time to rebuild. 

This deal puts them in an opportune position to do exactly that. The Blazers already have intriguing young palyers like Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons.
