Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
This is probably not exactly what the Knicks had planned. This team has seemingly been preparing to trade more for a bigger star.
Somewhere along the line, they started winning anyway. With that in mind, there is simple logic at play here. The Knicks are already good – they don’t need a bigger star than Beal.
With that in mind, it’s fair to say that RJ Barrett has not developed into the type of player the Knicks can’t spare, either. His potential remains, but at this point, he’s not living up to it.
Meanwhile, Robinson seems to want out of New York. The Knicks should probably move him before that becomes a larger problem.

They might as well package him with Barrett and a couple of first-round picks to land Beal. The Knicks should have a potent offense next season if they make this deal.
