Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

To be sure, Nic Claxton’s emergence this year has been impressive. This is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate. 

With that said, it feels unlikely that Claxton is going to improve much more. This is a player who is elite in the areas he’s strong in, and extremely limited in the areas he’s weak in. Claxton isn’t likely to ever be an offensive focal point. 

By contrast, Jonathan Kuminga could be anything. His development has been limited by his role with the contending Warriors. Don’t mistake that as a comment on his potential. 

In fact, his upside is limitless. If Kuminga reaches his ceiling, he can be the type of star two-way wing that runs the modern NBA.
