Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

With that said, Wood is a free agent this summer. Claxton could be his replacement. 

On the other hand, nothing is stopping the Mavericks from rostering both of them. In fact, with Wood at the 4, they’d have complimentary skillsets. Wood compensates for Claxton’s inability to shoot, while Claxton makes up for Wood’s defensive limitations. 

Either way, that’s not the point here. It doesn’t matter whether Wood stays or goes – Claxton would be a great addition to this Mavericks squad. 

After all, they’re likely to generate most of their offense from their backcourt. Doncic and (hopefully) Kyrie Irving will do the heavy lifting.
