Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
The Lakers don’t do this deal for the warm and fuzzy feelings.
Sure, the reunion with Clarkson is nice. Still, for the Lakers to do this deal, it has to make basketball sense. Luckily, it does.
In fact, Clarkson could be a perfect addition to this team. The Lakers could use more shot creation in their backcourt. They could also use players that can relieve James of his playmaking duties. That happens to be the area Clarkson has grown the most in since leaving LA.
He shouldn’t edge D’Angelo Russell out of town, either. There’s room in one guard rotation for both.

Realistically, Clarkson will be this team’s sixth man. As a former Sixth Man of the Year winner, he shouldn’t have an issue with that.
