It depends. If Kyrie Irving bolts in free agency, the Mavericks may want to hesitate before making this type of deal.

They’ll have the cap space to explore free agency and add impact players without destroying their flexibility. 

Of course, they’re not going to find a player as good as Siakam. This deal may make sense even if Irving departs. Luka Doncic would still need a co-star, and Siakam could be the perfect one. 

With that said, if Irving stays, this deal has the Mavericks assembling a superteam. Siakam should be the perfect addition as a two-way playmaking wing.
