In terms of NBA teams, it’s not only the torch they’ll eventually be passing. It’s also the bill. 

After all, being on the top is expensive. Typically, the best team in the NBA is going over the luxury tax. Eventually, they’ll likely have to start cutting corners. 

It only makes sense. Good players command big contracts. The more talented your core group is, the more expensive you’re likely to eventually become. 

Just look at the Warriors. They’ve already got Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson on big contracts.
