Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
Sure they should. They’re getting James Harden.
He may not be the record-breaking machine that he was during his prime with the Houston Rockets. He remains one of the best point guards in the NBA. The Heat will have a significantly better offense following this deal.
There is a condition here. Harden has a player option this summer. The Heat would need him to sign it and agree quickly to an extension.
If they don’t have assurance that he’s willing to make a long-term commitment, they can’t sacrifice Adebayo to rent him for a season.

Assuming that holds, this is a good deal. The Heat would need to replace Adebayo at cost. Assuming they can find a cheaper defensive big, they should be a better team next year.
Can we say the same for the Sixers?
