Every player, whether they admit it or not, thinks about the legacy that they will have when it is all said and done. NBA All-Star Paul George is going to leave quite a legacy behind when he retires.

He has accomplished a lot in his career. He is an 8-time All-Star and 6-time All-NBA Team member. A spot on the All-Defensive Team has been earned four times and he won the Most Improved Player of the Year award during the 2012-13 season.

His resume is very impressive, but when it comes to team success, it is lacking a little bit. He has played on teams that advanced to the Conference Finals three times; twice with the Indiana Pacers and once with the Clippers.

Getting so close to competing for a title and falling just short so many times has got to be wearing on a player. That is why George sought greener pastures and moved on from the Pacers in 2017, landing with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Two first-round exits occurred there, which led to Paul landing with the Clippers in 2019. He was handpicked by Kawhi Leonard to be his running mate. While certainly a compliment as it meant Leonard believed George was good enough to help win a title, it meant that his role would change.

After spending so many years as the go-to superstar with the Pacers, George had a tough decision to make. Continue falling short or take on a different role that would put him closer to winning a championship? It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but George opted for the latter.

During a recent appearance on TheOldMan&TheThree with J.J. Redick, George opened up about the decision to change teams in his career. He realized that to have the best chance to win, he needed to take on a secondary role.

That is not something many players’ egos would allow them to do. Everyone wants to be the guy and win their own way, but it takes a special player to realize when something needs to change.

George realized that and is hoping to climb the mountaintop and win an NBA Championship with the Clippers. It would be extra special there as George’s first NBA Finals victory would also be the first one in franchise history.
