Bulls Waive Goran Dragic; Possible Landing Spots

Goran Dragic, Chicago Bulls, NBA Rumors

The Chicago Bulls made a surprising addition to the team last week when they signed Patrick Beverley off the NBA buyout market.

Beverley had been traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Mo Bamba ahead of the trade deadline, but he never reported to the team. Orlando bought him out and he landed with his hometown Bulls shortly after.

He was inserted into the mix immediately and his impact has been felt. Chicago has given up 169 points combined in the two games that Beverley has appeared in, bringing some toughness and a defensive mentality to the team.

However, the addition of Beverley led to a change in the rotation. With a role for him cemented in place, it meant that there would be fewer minutes for veteran Goran Dragic. No longer in the team’s plans, Dragic is going to have the opportunity to latch on elsewhere for the stretch run of the season.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Goran Dragic & Chicago Bulls Updates

As shared by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Bulls have waived Dragic, opening up a roster spot in the process. Because it occurred before March 1st, he is eligible to sign with a team and be on their playoff roster as well.

The move isn’t too surprising as Dragic hadn’t played in a game with the Bulls since February 13th. His role had been diminishing throughout the season and with Beverley on board, it likely would have been nonexistent without an injury occurring.

Free to sign with any of the 29 other teams in the NBA after clearing waivers, Dragic should garner some attention. Turning 37 in May, he likely can’t handle too large of a role but as a third or fourth ball-handler, he provides some value.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Goran Dragic & Chicago Bulls Updates

Dragic is shooting 35.2 percent on 3-point attempts this season and has a wealth of playoff experience. With 60 games played, he can provide a contender with a capable insurance policy at the end of the bench capable of playing a few spot minutes here and there when a scoring punch is needed.
