As a young player, it’s hard to get an opportunity in the NBA. If you’re a lottery pick, of course, you’ll get a shot.
On the other hand, it isn’t so easy for young players on contenders. They may be talented, but their team is likely to lean on their veterans.
Just look at Payton Pritchard of the Boston Celtics. Sure, he’s in the rotation, but he may be worthy of more minutes. The contending Celtics simply don’t have the luxury of finding out.
On the other hand, Max Christie of the Los Angeles Lakers was getting opportunities throughout this season. Not anymore.
The Lakers bolstered their depth at the trade deadline, and now he’s out of the rotation.
