Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

The Raptors, on the other hand, have it a little more complicated. It is possible that they could be motivated by a variety of different reasons. 

As a starting point, they may simply prefer Dort’s defensive capabilities over Trent Jr.’s ability to create shots. It would be fair to say that. Despite the fact that the Raptors have their share of perimeter defense as well, they may simply have a preference on principle on this matter. 

Alternatively, they could also replace OG Anunoby, who was injured at the beginning of the season. Throughout the season, rumors have been circulating about the possibility of his departure, and they may become a reality in the summer as well. 

In either case, Dort for Trent Jr. is a justified decision. Even if you don’t consider anything else, the Raptors have been disappointing in 2022-23: they could justify almost any reasonable change in the team.
