There is no doubt that draft capital reigns supreme in the modern NBA. In most cases, we are talking about first-round picks.

As a matter of fact, they are considered one of the most valuable assets in the NBA. That being said, it is important not to discount the importance of second-round picks as well. 

As this year’s trade deadline came to an end, it certainly was not the case for most teams around the league. Several deals have been arranged in which rotation-quality players have been traded in exchange for a huge number of picks in the second round. 

You can package your second-rounders if you have enough of them. Without the Stepien Rule restricting a team from trading consecutive years of second-round picks, unlike first-round selections, there is more flexibility in moving them.
