Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
The Wolves acquired Gobert to make up for those same defensive shortcomings that Towns possesses. They may have been short-sighted in doing so.
For starters, Towns struggles even more mightily on the perimeter. Perhaps more significantly, the team’s jumbo pairing upfront slows the team’s pace down. That hasn’t seemed ideal for Anthony Edwards.
This deal allows them to pick it back up. A frontcourt of Gobert, Jaden McDaniels, and Wiggins ought to allow the Wolves to play a style that suits Edwards. It’ll also be one of the better defensive frontcourts in the NBA.
With that said, even if this deal doesn’t make the Wolves better, it has them adding three first-round picks.
