The Chicago Bulls have struggled to achieve the expected results when they formed their current core, beginning with the acquisition of Nikola Vucevic at the 2021 NBA trade deadline. After parting with draft capital to put their current pieces together, they are limited in additional maneuvers.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls are planning to sign Patrick Beverley to a contract for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Beverley is averaging 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 45 appearances this season. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade before the start of the season, but after the team’s aggressive maneuvers at the NBA trade deadline, he found himself on the move before getting bought out by the Orlando Magic.

It’s an intriguing storyline that Beverley, a Chicago native, gets to play for the Bulls during his NBA career. He had a challenging journey to become a player in the league, and surely it’s a satisfying situation to be able to play for his hometown team.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Patrick Beverley & Chicago Bulls Updates

It’s unclear how helpful of a signing Beverley will be for the Bulls, considering they already have Alex Caruso and Ayo Dosunmu as point-of-attack defenders against quicker guards. Beverley only brings a little for impact on offense, making his addition seem redundant. It sounds as though his locker room leadership is what’s being most sought after.

The Bulls essentially faced the need to upgrade in more critical areas using the NBA trade deadline to salvage their 2022-23 campaign. However, at 26-33, the height of their achievement will likely be marked by possible contention for a spot in the play-in tournament. Even for that, they trail the final spot by 2.0 games.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Patrick Beverley & Chicago Bulls Updates

The Bulls face some tough questions in the upcoming offseason. Nikola Vucevic will be a free agent. There has been little progress from Lonzo Ball’s ACL recovery. Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan could generate trade interest around the NBA if they decide to rebuild.
