The Golden State Warriors are going to have their work cut out for them in the coming weeks as they try and stay afloat without NBA All-Star Stephen Curry in the lineup. Curry has been sidelined since February 4th because of an injury to his lower left leg suffered in the game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Curry has missed four games and counting because of the injury and will be missing at least a few more as the most recent update wasn’t an overly encouraging one. The former MVP will miss the team’s final game before the All-Star break and won’t be evaluated until after it.

That means he will miss the team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 23rd, their first out of the break. More than likely, he will remain sidelined after that as well. Curry is dealing with partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane as well as a contusion to his left lower leg, which was caused by banging knees with McKinley Wright IV in the game against the Mavericks.

There was hope that the injury was just a contusion and was checked out by the medical staff. However, when he stood up, he knew that there was something off. The rehab process for his knee is an arduous one, which he recently spoke about.

“Ligaments can heal in all different types of timelines,” Curry said. “So there’s a window for each checkpoint. After the All-Star break, I will hopefully get back on the court, and then depending on how things go from there, we can key in on a specific date to get back.”

Curry has been cleared and is able to do virtually any activity that is not an on-court, basketball-related one. He can ride a bike and lift weights, which should help rim ramp things up a little quicker once he is cleared to return to basketball activities. However, unlike his shoulder injury, where he just had to make sure he wouldn’t be in jeopardy on the court, this knee injury has to fully heal before he can return.

“It’s a slow process early, letting everything settle, let the healing process start,” he said. “The goal right now is just trying to let it heal while you maintain as much of your strength and conditioning. Keeping everything as active as possible around the injury.”

Not having a concrete timetable is certainly concerning to some degree. The Warriors aren’t going to rush him back, but if they want any chance of competing for another championship and defending their title, he has to be out on the floor.

Golden State went 6-5 without Curry in the lineup because of his shoulder injury and is looking to stay afloat this time as well. In the congested Western Conference, one extended could have them on the outside looking in of the playoff picture, so they have to do everything in their power to avoid that.

The Warriors are currently in 9th place but are only 3.5 games ahead of the 13th-place Los Angeles Lakers, who picked up a victory over Golden State last week.
