Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

Recently, it’s been suggested that the Mavericks may not be done with big moves. Rumors indicate that they may pursue Deandre Ayton.

They could do that. On the other hand, Ayton will cost a pretty penny. By contrast, Holmes can probably be had at the price of Wood.

He can offer similar production, too. Holmes is an archetypical rim-running / rim-protecting big man. Luckily, that’s all the Mavericks need at the position with two of the best isolation scorers / pick-and-roll ball handlers in the NBA in the backcourt.

Meanwhile, Davis is a solid, athletic wing who spaces the floor. He’ll find a place in this team’s rotation. All told, this deal makes the Mavericks better.
