Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, 2027 First-Round Pick (PHI via BKN), 2029 First-Round Pick (DAL via BKN)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Zach LaVine
When we say that the Nets don’t have a co-star for Durant, we say it with a bit of sadness. Ben Simmons was supposed to be that guy.
After all, he wasn’t picked first overall in the 2016 NBA draft arbitrarily. Coming out of LSU, Simmons looked like exactly the type of jumbo playmaker that teams could build an NBA offense around.
For a while, he justified those hopes at the NBA level. Simmons looked the part of a star for his first three seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers. It’s hard to say what happened next.
It may be that injuries have limited his impact, or it may be psychological. Either way, Simmons has developed into a frustratingly passive NBA player.
