Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal

The idea that the Hornets may trade Washington could be misguided in the eyes of some. It is clear that this 23-year-old is a versatile player. Isn’t it logical that they would want to keep him on board? 

It is possible. On the other hand, he is not going to be cheap. This summer, Washington is due to receive an extension on his rookie contract. There is a good chance that he will be in line for a lucrative position. 

Meanwhile, the Hornets are one of the worst teams in the NBA at the moment. In my opinion, they aren’t in a position to spend a lot of money on a non-star player.

As a whole, this deal is about punting on Washington and obtaining a first-round pick that more closely aligns with the Hornets’ timeline for the next few years.
