They’re not necessarily interested in the players they’re receiving here. They’re interested in clearing cap space. This deal is all about the upcoming summer for Dallas. 

After all, Walker IV and Beverley are both on expiring contracts. Dinwiddie has an extra year on his deal. Following this trade, Dallas could be a major player in free agency this summer. If they fall short, they’ll still have plenty of contracts on the books to swing a big trade. 

At the same time, a change of scenery could bump Beverley’s three-point percentage back to his career average. He’ll be helpful to this year if it does.
