Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

As an astute reader, you may have already figured this out, but this deal has nothing to do with bringing Westbrook back to the team. 

Nevertheless, there is a possibility that the Nets may actually experiment with playing him in the future. There is no doubt that he has chemistry with Durant, and he may prove to be more impactful than Ben Simmons in the long run.

Nevertheless, that is not the main reason for the Nets to make this move. 

That would mean receiving two first-round picks from an aging team like the Los Angeles Lakers. No matter if the Nets decide to move forward with Durant or start all over again, those picks will be extremely valuable to them.

There is a possibility, however, that it may not be their choice to make. No one would be surprised if Durant requested a trade following Irving’s departure if he asked for one. The Nets could use those picks to make meaningful upgrades to their roster this summer if he doesn’t do so. 

Would it be a good idea for the Lakers to give them that opportunity?
