Of course, any NBA team caters their roster to their best player. A team’s needs are no different than their best player’s needs. 

After all, talent comes first in the National Basketball Association. Still, even the league’s very best players have weaknesses. Usually, teams build a roster around them that minimize those issues. 

Perhaps that’s why the Mavericks have so few playmakers. After all, Luka Doncic is likely the best playmaker in the NBA.

The Mavericks may have felt that their resources were best spent elsewhere.

There’s some logic in that. At the same time, Doncic can’t make every play on his own. In 2022-23, the Mavericks are learning that the hard way.
