There is one Atlanta Hawks player generating a lot of interest from the rest of the NBA before the trade deadline: sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic, who has a player option worth $18 million next season.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Hawks aren’t eager to trade Bogdanovic away despite the heavy amount of interest he’s drawn from around the NBA.
“League sources say the Hawks have no shortage of trade interest in Bogdan Bogdanović as well — as in “half the league is calling” type stuff. The 30-year-old guard has a player option for $18 million next season, so most teams would understandably view him as a short-term rental (with the hopes of re-signing him if he opts out). To this point, the Hawks haven’t shown much interest in moving him.”
The fact that Bogdanovic is an intriguing combo guard with efficient shooting ability. He possesses a skill set that contenders should desire. What makes him all the more helpful is his ability to shoot off the dribble and create plays for teammates.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Bogdan Bogdanovic & Atlanta Hawks Updates
He would be a valuable addition to countless organizations. A key role player for the Hawks, he’s averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 30.8 minutes per game. He’s shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from 3-point range.
They would probably be more willing to part ways if they were in the gutter of the Eastern Conference. But Nate McMillan’s team is 25-26 and ranks eighth in the standings, and they still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Moving on from Bogdanovic would limit their ability to maximize their playoff qualification odds.
