In an expected twist, the Utah Jazz are one team that could be buyers ahead of the NBA trade deadline on February 9th. While they have cooled off considerably from their hot start, Utah remains in the thick of the playoff picture in the Western Conference.

Currently holding down the 10th spot with a record of 26-26, the Jazz are only a one-game ahead of the 11th-place Oklahoma City Thunder and 2.5 games ahead of the 13th-place Los Angeles Lakers.

But, they are only three games behind the third-place Sacramento Kings, so making a move to bolster the lineup and make a run is certainly within the realm of possibility.

One of the players that the Jazz have their eyes on is Dorian Finney-Smith of the Dallas Mavericks. They are not alone in that pursuit as plenty of teams have made calls on the two-way forward.

What could a deal between the two franchises look like? According to NBA Analysis Network’s Grant Afseth, Malik Beasley is one player the Mavericks could look to get in a return package for Finney-Smith.

Given how high the asking price reportedly is on Finney-Smith, it is easy to assume that it would take more than Beasley for the Jazz to land him; he would just be a piece of the deal.

Given how many assets the franchise acquired this past offseason, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to start making some upgrades as the team is already outperforming expectations.

Adding Finney-Smith would give the Jazz the kind of 3-and-D wing that the roster is lacking. They had a very good one in recent seasons with Royce O’Neale, but he was traded in the offseason to the Brooklyn Nets. Finney-Smith would fill that role perfectly as the defensive ace on the team.
