Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
Ironically, this deal would leave Memphis without a player like Adams. They’d still have plenty of options at the 5, but none of them would be conventional. Brandon Clarke is functionally similar, but he’s undersized. Then, you’ve got Siakam and Jaren Jackson Jr.
If you’re pairing those two, do you really need conventions? They project as a lethal pairing on defense. Jackson Jr. is a rim protector who can survive in space, whereas Siakam is a perimeter pest who can defend the rim. Between the two of them, they’d have all bases covered.
They’d also have a new offensive Big 3 in Siakam, Ja Morant, and Desmond Bane. All things considered, this deal would make Memphis one of the most talented teams in the NBA. Opponents would have to respect them.
One of the factors to consider with all of this is how weak the Western Conference is this season. There isn’t a dominant force that is untouchable like in years past with the dynasty Warriors.

If the Grizzlies managed to acquire Siakam, there is little reason to think they couldn’t break through to the NBA Finals and be a major problem for any team they face. Maybe they’d actually be “Fine in the West,” as Morant likes to say.
