Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
At 23-28, the Raptors are far removed from that championship glory. We know they’re not going to win it all this year. In fact, they’d be lucky to make a playoff push; It may be time for this team to accept defeat and start preparing for the future.
If they chose to, this is a good deal to m make it happen. The three first-round picks and a swap they’re receiving here are comparable to the draft capital the Cavs got for Mitchell. Meanwhile, Williams is a recent lottery pick with star potential.
Finally, there’s a benefit to adding Adams too. The Raptors don’t currently roster a rim-running, rim-protecting big like him. He could help to take pressure off the rest of the unit in ways they aren’t benefitting from right now.
Again, the natural appeal of this trade is obviously the draft capital. In a time when many teams are stacking up on draft assets, the Raptors would get into the mix of doing just that. They could get even more aggerssive with deadline selling and bottom out for a great draft pick this year, too.
