According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Turner and the Pacers agreed on a two-year, $60 million contract extension. The deal includes a renegotiation of the current salary Turner is earning this season, setting a new record for the largest adjustment in NBA history.
Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has agreed to a two-year, $60 million contract extension that includes an additional $17.1M renegotiation on his 2022-2023 salary, his agent Austin Brown of CAA Sports told ESPN on Saturday.
With the Pacers having a surplus of salary cap spending room, they were able to renegotiate the final year of Turner’s current contract. He will now earn $35 million for this season after adding the additional $17.1 million of cap space to his $18 million salary for the 2022-23 campaign. It’s the largest salary renegotiation in NBA history.
For the two seasons of Turner’s contract extension, he will earn $20.9 million in 2023-24 and $19.9 million in 2024-25, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
An additional detail included in Wojnarowski’s report indicates the Pacers’ intention to be buyers at the NBA trade deadline. Indiana has “changed course” on a possible rebuild and has instead opted to extend Turner’s contract and make further acquisitions.
