Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal
It wouldn’t be fair to say that Suggs hasn’t flashed some upside. It would be fairer to say he hasn’t shown potential in the areas the Magic need him to show it.
Specifically, Suggs struggles with his long-range shot. That’s a particular problem for Orlando. This offense is likely to run through Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner for the foreseeable future, and they’ll need floor spacing around them.
Of course, Langford hasn’t been a tremendous shooter in his brief NBA career either. He has flashed a little more ability from range than Suggs. It doesn’t matter – that’s not the point here, anyway.
The point is to acquire a first-round pick. The Magic may have seen Suggs as a potential cornerstone when they selected him, but they’ve got better cornerstones now.
