Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal

Let’s invert that same question. Why would the Clippers want Rose?

Well, this team doesn’t have a distinct starting point guard. Rose, at his age, doesn’t give them one either. What he does do is strengthen their depth at the position.

Now, the Clippers have a platoon between Rose, John Wall, and Reggie Jackson. They can pick and choose who plays according to matchups and performance. In the absence of a clear starting caliber player, that will do.

Meanwhile, this roster is stacked with floor spacers. Granted, none of them are the same kind of movement shooter as Kennard.

Still, the Clippers keep the floor spaced well enough that adding a playmaker at the cost of a shooter seems like a good trade-off.

It could even help this big market team raise its first championship banner.
