Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is looking for a contract extension. He is set to reach NBA free agency during the upcoming offseason barring a new deal.
Irving’s agent, Shetellia Irving, told Bleacher Report that negotiations have not yet materialized despite there being interest from their side in getting a deal done.
“Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this,” Irving’s agent told Bleacher Report. “We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”
With Irving being in the final year of his contract, the Nets are risking his departure without a deal in place. There will likely be plenty of interest from the league. He is eligible to receive a maximum extension of four years and approximately $200 million.

He is expected to make his eighth All-Star appearance, as he was the top vote-getter in the Eastern Conference guard category in last week’s update. He’s averaging 26.7 points and 5.1 rebounds on the season.
Irving has been a constant presence in Brooklyn ever since he returned to the Nets in November after an eight-game suspension due to sharing a documentary with antisemitic messages on his social media accounts. The Nets are now considered one of the best teams in the conference, despite a slow start.
