When an NBA team has a dynamic on-ball superstar, building around them is simple: you surround them with spacing.
That’s all the league’s most talented players need. They can generate shots for themselves and their teammates. All they need is as much space on the floor as possible to maximize their driving and shooting lanes.
Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is one of the league’s most dynamic on-ball superstars. The team has done a fine job of surrounding him with spacing, too.
When Christian Wood lines up at the 5, the Mavs have shooters at every place on the court.
With that said a 5 who can space the floor while defending the rim would make this team more dynamic. For all of his offensive abilities, Wood is not the strongest defender.
Would Mo Bamba of the Orlando Magic be a sensible addition?
