Knicks, Suns, Wizards Could Pursue Warriors GM Bob Myers

Bob Myers, Golden State Warriors, NBA Rumors

There has been a lot of focus recently on what the Golden State Warriors will do with their roster heading into the future. They are currently running a dual-timeline approach, attempting to remain competitive for NBA championships while developing younger players for the future. Thus far, that approach has yet to be a fruitful one.

Golden State is currently 23-24 and holding onto the last spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference. The team has struggled to find its footing this season as Stephen Curry is the only one consistently playing up to his potential and expectations.

There is a lot to figure out on the court as the Warriors could look to shake things up ahead of the deadline. How big of a splash they are willing to make is anyone’s guess, but you can be sure that Bob Myers will do whatever it takes to improve the team.

Myers’ future is also cloudy at the moment. His contract is set to expire in the summer and right now there has been no traction on an extension. Could the architect for the Warriors’ dynasty look to move on this offseason for another job?

There is a lot that will go into that decision as he has been at the helm for the Warriors for 12 seasons. He was an integral part of their success not only by leading the front office but because of the relationships he was able to forge with the players and coaches.

If Myers were to leave, it could be the beginning of the end for the Warriors as we know it. Should he opt to move on, he would be the league’s most sought-after front-office personnel member. Three teams have already been mentioned as potential suitors should he look to make a change, including the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks.

According to sources close to the situation, Washington, Phoenix, and New York are all worth monitoring as possibilities. Meanwhile, the recent focus in front office circles, where Myers’ situation has become a hot topic, is on the Clippers. They have the richest owner in all of professional sports in Steve Ballmer, the 66-year-old former Microsoft CEO with an $83 billion net worth who has taken the blank-check approach to his title pursuit since buying the team in 2014.

If Myers is looking for the biggest challenge, getting the Knicks over the top could be it. New York is desperate for a winning team, and some progress has been made with Leon Rose leading the way. But, there is still more work to be done, and Myers has shown to be the man for the job.

If money is the biggest factor, which was also touched on in the article at The Athletic, it would be hard to turn down the LA Clippers. Steve Ballmer, as stated, is willing to spend whatever it takes to have a winning product on the court, and he has the capital to back it up.
