The last time that we saw Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis on the court was December 16th against the Denver Nuggets. The NBA All-Star suffered a foot injury that has kept him sidelined since that time, missing 20 consecutive games. However, that streak is going to be broken on Wednesday night.

Davis is set to make his return to the lineup against the San Antonio Spurs tonight as long as there aren’t any setbacks during his warmups. While cleared to return, it will take some time for him to ramp up his activity, as Dave McMenamin of ESPN shared that he will be on a minute limit at the start.

“Davis will be on a 20- to 24-minute restriction, easing back from a foot injury that had some medical personnel projecting an eight- to 10-week recovery time frame, sources said. It was 5½ weeks ago that he suffered a fractured bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot.”

Los Angeles was able to stay afloat without Davis in the lineup, going 10-10 without him. Prior to going down with the injury, Davis was playing at an MVP level, averaging 27.4 points, his most since the 2017-18 season. He was also pulling down a career-high 12.1 rebounds per game to go along with 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 blocks.

Only 1.5 games out of the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference, the Lakers will be ecstatic about getting Davis back in the lineup. If they have any chance of turning things around the rest of the season and making the playoffs, they need him healthy and in the lineup.

Davis’ return to the lineup will coincide with the debut of Rui Hachimura. The Lakers acquired Hachimura from the Washington Wizards earlier this week in a trade, sending Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks to the Wizards. Two of the selections, in 2023 and 2029, are their own, while the third is a 2023 second-round pick via the Chicago Bulls.
