One of the emerging names to watch in NBA trade rumors as the Feb. 9 deadline approaches is Rui Hachimura. The Washington Wizards forward has made recent comments that suggest a desire for a change of scenery.

Hachmiura showcased his potential during Saturday’s win over the Orlando Magic. He finished with 30 points and five rebounds while shooting 13-22 from the floor and 3-5 from beyond the arc. He even added a pair of blocks to go along with.

On the season, Hachimura is averaging only 24.3 minutes per game and is chipping in 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. The main area holding him back is shooting just 33.7 percent from 3-point range, but his game inside the arc has a lot of layers.

When asked if he wants to be traded, Hachimura responded, while laughing: “I don’t know.” He didn’t want to comment when asked if he had asked for a trade.

The general sentiment seems clear from Hachimura. He wants to be on a team where his skill set can be utilized. There is a frontcourt logjam with the Wizards right now, especially after Kyle Kuzma’s emergence.

“I just got to play my game. I know what I can do and I can help the team to wins,” Hachimura said. “It’s either here or other teams.”

The Wizards will need to pay Kuzma a hefty price to re-sign him, and with both his and Hachimura’s best position being the four, it seems straightforward what ultimately would need to transpire. It’s best for both sides to move on.

Any team that needs a four with some ability to put the ball on the floor to make plays inside the 3-point line would benefit from pursuing Hachimura. His 3-point shooting has been inconsistent, but if a team is confident in its developmental staff, that’s all the more reason to pursue a deal.
