Have you ever really, really wanted something you couldn’t afford? NBA teams find themselves in a similar position.

You might find a way to get it anyway. Perhaps you drain your bank account and skip lunch for a month. You might take out a loan. All you know is that you’ve got to have it. 

They may covet a player they can’t really afford. Sometimes, they’ll scramble to find a way to make it work anyway. 

For example, the Cleveland Cavaliers could really use a good wing. Unfortunately, they spent many of their resources on Donovan Mitchell this summer.

At the same time, if they’re willing to spend every last penny, they may be able to make something happen.
