Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

Some Lakers fans will want more than this. 

Fair enough. The notion that the Lakers should trade Russell Westbrook and two first-round picks in exchange for a bigger haul are widespread. There’s some merit in that. 

At the same time, Westbrook has been more productive lately. Meanwhile, parting with two distant future first-round picks isn’t an easy decision to make. This deal allows them to keep their picks and Westbrook. 

It also nets them a young player who will be ready to contribute right now. McDaniels’ 3-and-D skillset will probably land him a starting gig on this team from day one.
