It’s not worth asking who Hachimura is at the moment. The Pacers would be gambling on his upside, so we need to ask what he’s supposed to be. 

In theory, Hachimura is an athletic wing with the strength to play the 4 and the mobility to play the 3. He’s supposed to be able to create his own shot and wreak havoc on opposing 4s in transition. 

That sounds exactly like a player the Pacers could use. At the moment, they don’t have a reliable wing who plays the 4. Who knows what adding one could unlock for them? 

After all, Tyrese Haliburton has emerged as one of the best playmakers in the NBA.
