Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
The Timberwolves have more obvious motives here. They’re simply trying to become a better team.
Flipping an in-prime Russell for an aging Conley may seem counterproductive from that perspective. It isn’t. Conley’s ability to space the floor and his quick decision-making should serve Anthony Edwards better.
Meanwhile, Gay is a solid addition to this team as well. He’s near the end of his career, but he remains a solid defensive combo big who’ll crack this rotation. He’ll make it easier for the Wolves to stagger Towns and Gobert.
This deal doesn’t fit everything wrong with this Wolves team. They’d probably have to move one of their bigs to do that.
