Perhaps it’s time to do away with positions altogether. In the modern NBA, it’s more productive to view players as archetypes.
Offensive anchors. Defensive engines. Pure scorers. Finally, and just as importantly, 3-and-D wings.
A contending team needs at least a couple of good ones. Three-and-D wings aren’t typically the league’s stars, but they’re still vital components on a winning team.
By contrast, wings that only have one of those two components are simply less valuable.

For example, look at Isaac Okoro. He’s a good defender, but if his shot doesn’t come around soon, he may never start in this league.
