At times this summer, it felt like Donovan Mitchell was already a New York Knick. Instead, he became the latest NBA All-Star to be linked but not acquired.
It just felt written in the stars. Mitchell is a New York native. He had apparently grown tired of life in a small market.
The Knicks had all the assets to bring him to the biggest one in the NBA.
They were unable to do so. Mitchell is a Cleveland Cavalier. Meanwhile, the Knicks’ major acquisition of the summer ended up being Jalen Brunson.
It just so happens that acquisition is paying dividends. Meanwhile, the Knicks signed Brunson in free agency – they still have the assets to trade for a star if they wanted to.
A star like, for example, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards.
