Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
Buddy Hield’s inclusion here is a touch awkward.
The Raptors probably wouldn’t be targeting him. He’s simply necessary to make the money work. We’re assuming the Pacers wouldn’t want to trade Myles Turner if they’re acquiring Siakam for an all-in push.
At the same time, the Raptors could benefit from having an elite floor spacer around. Hield’s gravity would open up what’s been a fairly stagnant half-court offense in Toronto this season. Still, that’s not the main draw for them here.
That would be four unprotected first-round picks. This deal gives the Raptors a blank canvas with which to build around Scottie Barnes.
