When you’re close enough to the thing you want the most, you’ll go to any lengths to get it. An NBA team on the cusp of a championship is in a similar boat.

Suppose you’re lost in the desert. You are dying of thirst. In the distance, you see water. What on earth could stop you from getting to it? 

A championship window is rare, and generally not open for very long. If you can find a way to pry it open a little further, you take it. That’s the situation the Boston Celtics are in.

This team has as good of a chance of winning a title this year as anybody. With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in their prime with no shortage of key role players already in place, the time to capitalize is right now. The NBA title contention landscape is wide open, too.

With that in mind, they should be exploring win-now trades that will make their chances even better.
