For a long time, the Western Conference reigned supreme in the NBA.
It’s effectively been that way since Michael Jordan retired. The Lakers and Spurs dominated the league for a long spell.
After that, the Finals was typically a Western Conference team against whichever team employed LeBron James.
In 2022-23, that appears to be changing. The Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers may be the four most serious title threats in the league. It appears that the balance of power has shifted.
Perhaps that’s why the Toronto Raptors are underperforming. At 18-23, this team has been disappointing this season. For that reason, many see them as a strong candidate to make a major trade this year.
