At some point, every NBA team needs to rebuild. They just don’t all go about it in the same manner.
Some teams rebuild through the draft. Other teams simply collect assets that way until a big trade becomes available. Both paths are viable.
The San Antonio Spurs appear to be on the former route. This team is tanking 2022-23 in hopes of landing the best pick they can in the upcoming lottery.
By contrast, the New York Knicks appear to be waiting for the right trade to come along.
They have a mountain of draft capital, but it seems as if they’d offer it to any team that was looking to trade a star player.
Should they acquire Doug McDermott in the meantime?
