Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal 

The Magic could justify this deal in a couple of ways. 

Firstly, it allows them to sell high on Bol. The opportunity to land a first-round pick from a team that could conceivably be in the lottery when it conveys is a good one. Bol may never command a higher price than that. 

Secondly, the Magic may not have much need for Bol long-term. Wendell Carter Jr. looks like their future big man, and Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are obviously their forwards of the future.

Even if Bol becomes a star, they won’t have a starting position for him.

In other words, they’re selling high if Bol doesn’t improve, and even if he does, they’re clearing a logjam. This is a win-win situation for the Magic.
