With that said, some impressions linger. The impression of the dominant NBA big man is one example. 

Perhaps that impression isn’t strictly rooted in history, either. Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid are both perennial MVP candidates. There is still room for big men to dominate if they’ve got the skills to do so. 

That may be why the Phoenix Suns took Deandre Ayton with the first overall pick in the 2018 draft. Unfortunately, given the career trajectories of Luka Doncic and Trae Young, that appears to have been a mistake. 

Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis was selected with the fourth overall pick in 2015. Ironically, another big man was picked first in Karl-Anthony Towns.

Relative to his class, the selection of Porzingis wasn’t bad – although most general managers would surely prefer Devin Booker.
