Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
In short, the answer is Josh Giddey and a boatload of draft capital.
The Thunder may be nearing the end of their rebuild. Unfortunately, the Hornets may have rushed theirs. By acquiring veteran talent like Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward, this organization may have rushed into mediocrity.
This deal represents a second chance. Giddey is good, but he’s not a franchise-altering talent like Ball. That’s fine. The Hornets have the second-worst record in the NBA.
At the moment, they’re on track to land a franchise-altering talent in the upcoming draft.

If they do, pairing that player with Giddey should give them a bright future. Of course, acquiring five unprotected first-round picks does even more for their bottom line.
Hopefully, it’ll do enough to please fans of this organization.
