Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal 

Myles Turner is a free agent this summer. That may be the most important variable here. 

By now, it feels unlikely that he’ll stick with the Pacers. The relationship between the two sides appears damaged from years of trade rumors. The team’s attempt to sign Deandre Ayton last summer probably didn’t help, either. 

If the Pacers appear likely to lose Turner for nothing, they ought to move him no matter how successful they’ve been this season.

Furthermore, Isaiah Jackson has a lot of upside in his own right – trading Turner gives the Pacers more leeway to explore it.

Of course, that’s not the main reason the Pacers would do this deal. Given the state of the Lakers, the picks they’re receiving here would be among the most valuable assets in the NBA. A slight decline in wins in 2022-23 should be well worth the benefits of doing this deal.
