Really, what we have here are competing philosophies.
Many would argue the Knicks shouldn’t do this deal. Granted, this Wizards pick is protected and probably won’t convey. Still, it’s a matter of principle. The Knicks may not be good enough to upgrade this roster.
Sure. Here’s a counterargument: it’s always worth upgrading your roster. There is always value in winning. The Knicks would benefit from being seen as a destination that star players would like to find themselves in.
Adding Clarkson should help with that cause. He’s always been a dynamic shot creator, but this season, his playmaking has come around.
